Who can apply for Meerkat Funeral Cover?
An applicant will be eligible for cover under this Policy if:
- he/she and other covered family members are entitled to reside in South Africa (SA Identity Document or 2-year visa with a copy of the life assured’s passport)
- the applicant (and applicant’s spouse if applicable) is aged between 18 (eighteen) years and 60 (sixty) years at commencement.
Children must be younger than 18 (eighteen) years at commencement and will be covered up to age 23 (twenty-three) years.
The age limit applicable for extended family members and parents is 18 (eighteen) years to 75 (seventy-five) years.
Proof of age of the life insured must be provided before any benefit under this policy will be paid and/or granted. If at any stage during the lifetime of the policy it is found that the age of any of the insured persons under the policy is not correct, premiums will be recalculated according to the correct age. If an insured person was too old to be covered under the policy when the policy was applied for, the insured person will be removed from the policy and all premiums paid in respect of that insured person be refunded to the policyholder.
Extended Family members need to be your biological relation. For the purpose of the policy an extended family member is defined as one of the following in relation to the policyholder:

Biological child of a biological child of the policyholder or spouse. |
Stepfather/Stepmother |
Spouse of policyholder’s biological parent/Spouse of the biological parent of the policyholder’s spouse. |
Stepson/Stepdaughter |
Biological child of the policyholder’s spouse and which do not qualify as a child dependent. |
Niece/Nephew |
Biological child of a biological sibling of the policyholder |

What happens if I miss a premium or payment?
Failure to pay premiums in full will result in the policy being terminated and no benefits being paid. There is a grace period of 1 month to repay a missed premium.
